Castles, Palaces, and the Beach

Day 2 in Lisbon and we head out to the village of Sintra (which takes forever to type since autocorrect is sure you mean Sinatra) in the nearby countryside. This area is filled with palaces, some beautiful and others just eccentric, built hundreds of years ago. We spent most of our time at the Quinta da Regaleira. The kids loved the initiation well, lake, and labyrinth, all built by a free mason for mysterious ceremonies. From there our wonderful local guide, Diogo, took us on a wild off road jeep tour of the villages around where he grew up. This led us to a local lunch spot in Azenhas do Mar which was nice as there were no other tours or tourists around and the place was filled with Portuguese people, food, and wine. After lunch we made a couple quick stops at a white washed village and the lighthouse at the western most point in Europe – cool surfer looking dude strumming “don’t worry be happy” at this spot, random. Any Forell adventure isn’t complete without a beach and after touring all day in 97 degree heat we were extatic to end in Cascais (said cash cash and yes also super trendy and expensive). The Atlantic Ocean is freezing cold but felt so good on such a hot day. Kids had a blast on the floating blow up trampoline/parkour park just off the beach. Finished with dinner at an Italian restaurant overlooking the sunset and a late night Uber home.

Another Palace in Sintra, Domes were in vogue architecturally after explorers brought back images from India.
Not sure but cool looking

Can’t tell you what happened here, I’m sworn to secrecy.
